I am often asked by clients….“is it better to reupholster my furniture or buy something new?
I am a VERY big fan of recovering pieces if they are good quality base construction. Retying the springs in the seat area and adding new foam can revive a piece that is decades old, and it is a lot of fun to transform a chair or sofa with a new trend fabric.
The upholsterer can reshape the back and arms to create a more current style or something that is simply more comfortable….that antique chaise grandma left you can be remade into something very special with the right fabric!
Adding details such as nail heads that are available in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes give an added panache. Tufting with self covered or jeweled buttons will give you a sophisticated look that is both on-trend and timeless. Restaining or whitewashing the exposed wood is another way to create a custom look you can really appreciate.
There are three very good reasons to reupholster: 1- you can create a totally custom piece by choosing from literally hundreds of fabrics and detailing elements 2 – it will cost more to replace high quality pieces with new vs recovering your existing furniture 3 – you can give new life to a cherished possession
The landing page of my site features a loveseat that I had recovered in a beautiful linen stripe….you can see that the puppy likes it and my client LOVES it.
